In our premiere issue, our CEO Debra Gano wrote a very helpful article about paying attention to the words we say to ourselves. “We know it’s important to watch the negative things we say to others, and we also want to be sure the words (and thoughts) we say to ourselves are both empowering and kind,” says Debra. “When we judge ourselves harshly and that critical mean-girl voice inside our head becomes the one we hear, not only does it tear down our self-esteem, it also sets in motion a pattern of potential future negativity. What you think about and declare for yourself eventually will come true – your words actually have attraction power!”

For example, your inner mean-girl voice says “I am ugly and nobody likes me!” The TRUTH is, you’re NOT ugly (we all have something beautiful about us, especially inside!), and SOMEBODY likes you (your mom, your neighbor, your dog). But if you keep telling yourself over and over these negative statements, then you actually WILL attract people who reinforce your thoughts and who will see (and point out!) your less than attractive qualities, or people who really don’t like you.

On the other hand, if you were to switch around your statements to yourself, and rather say “I am beautiful inside and out, and I am someone that people like,” then you’ll attract people in your life who like you and support your beauty.

So when a negative thought about yourself pops into your head, such as “I am stupid – I can’t do ANYTHING right,” first be sure to ask yourself if this is true – chances are it’s not (you can do SOMETHING right, right?). Then replace that thought with a more positive one that you can believe about yourself, such as “I am smart because I can do lots of things right!” Then remind yourself about all of the things that you do well. Not only will you immediately begin to feel better, but you’re creating opportunities for lots more happy moments in the future!

“Remember the words you speak and the thoughts you think are powerful,” reminds Debra, “so select them wisely so the best YOU can shine!”

Life can be crazy, and with all the activity we have going on in our lives, it's hard to get out and be active, but what a great way to get kids and families away from their TVs, electronics, phones, and any other distractions they have during day by celebrating Nickelodeon's 8th Annual World Wide Day of Play!   

"THIS Saturday September 24th 2011, Nickelodeon's television networks and websites will go off-air and offline from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. (all times ET/PT) as a signal to kids and families nationwide to get up and get active. Before going off the air at noon, the network's live-action stars will give viewers special on-the-scene reports from the WWDOP event, highlighting the activities and sharing tips on maintaining healthy and active lifestyles.  Nick will resume programming at 3 p.m. with live updates from the Worldwide Day of Play event in Washington.  At 7:30 p.m., the network will kick off an evening of primetime premieres with an action-packed half-hour special,Worldwide Day of Play: Washington, D.C., featuring Nick's hit live-action stars, highlights from the day's activities and a special performance by Big Time Rush"

"Nickelodeon and the WWDOP partner organizations— including NFL Play 60, MLB, PGA, the National Park Service, National Park Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Kiwanis, National Wildlife Federation and National Environmental Education Foundation and Special Olympics International— along with "Let's Move" and the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition will set up on the Ellipse, located in the National Park Service unit of President's Park just south of the White House. Starting at 10:00 a.m. and going through the day, they will host a wide variety of activities, including baseball, soccer, dance, lacrosse, cheerleading, martial arts and entertainment, while offering audiences around the country live updates from D.C.  In addition to supporting WWDOP on Sept. 24, the National Park Service will also celebrate National Public Lands Day on the Ellipse and at all 394 other national parks across the country by offering free admission that day."

 There will also be a mobile version of the  WWDOP site at m.nick.com. You can also follow @NickDayofPlay on twitter for real time updates. A special video series entitled "I Play Because" will also be showcased with stars from Nickelodeon's top-rated series explaining why they like to play.
